The New Beginnings schedule of activities is made up of programs for those affected by seizures and/or acquired brain injury.

Who is Eligible for Participation?

Individuals who are:
• Living with the effects of an acquired brain injury and/or seizure disorder
• Sixteen years of age or older
• In general good health
• Free from active substance abuse

We actively encourage all members to participate in the social events that are planned throughout the year and to come out and meet other members.

All activities in the schedule take place at the centre unless otherwise stated.


Computer Class from 10:30 am to noon.
Survivors learn computer basics including how to browse the internet, how to use Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Powerpoint, and how to make folders, rename and delete files and use computer accessories such as the calculator and Paint.

Crafts from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Survivors get artsy by learning to complete new projects and using their imaginations. Everything from collages to painting, to drawing and beading.


Walking from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Survivors get fresh air and exercise by walking around Gillies or Hershey when the weather permits it. When not, the centre’s gym is available for a game of basketball, badminton, etc. We also walk around the McIntyre Arena during the winter months.

Bowling at Mid-Town Bowl from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Survivors join in on two friendly games of bowling. Cost is $2.00 for two games, shoes included.


Mall Walk (Shopping at the Timmins Square) from 9:00 am to noon.
Survivors get exercise by walking the Timmins Square and have the opportunity to pick up any items they may need while there.

Community Kitchen from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Survivors learn to plan a menu based on available funds, cook appetizers, meals and desserts by following easy recipes, and are encouraged to choose future recipes based on health concerns specific to them. Cost is $10.00 monthly.


Variety from 10:00 am to noon.
Survivors can do a range of activities. Sometimes, we'll take them grocery shopping, or we'll do some scrapbooking. In the New Year, we plan on a variety of tours.

The Lunch Box from noon until 1:00 pm.
Survivors get to enjoy a lunch with the group. A great time to socialize, while enjoying a home cooked meal!

Games Day from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Survivors spend the afternoon with their peers playing board games, card games, or just chatting.


Yoga from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
Survivors and their spouses or parents are welcome to join us for an hour long Yoga class presented by Liz Bohdanec. Those with mobility limitations are welcome, as all of the class can be modified while seated in a chair.
